Manali is a high altitude based town in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. The place is so beautiful because of which many have stayed back for months and even years. If you are someone who loves adventure sports like trekking, skiing, rafting and camping but at the same time loves peace then this place is definitely for you!
You can reach Manali via train, air or bus.
Road-
The distance one will have to cover is 550kms, which might take up to 12-13hrs. Buses are the most popular mode of transport as it is comfortable and driven by the most experienced drivers out there. (1200/- to 1500/-)
Air-
Manali is connected to Delhi by air. The frequency of the flights are less and the only airline that operates is Air India that lands in Kullu-Manali once a day from Delhi.
Rails-
You need to travel from Delhi to Chandigarh, most preferably by train and from there you could book a cab to travel the remaining distance which is 250kms.
Once you have reached the centre, that’s Manali, you can easily travel to Tosh or Kasol.

96.6 km- Distance from Manali to Tosh. (3hrs travel time)
There is no specific “best time” to visit these magical places. If you love snow, winters are your time! If you love warm weather then summer is your season.
Winters-
(October- February)
The temperature drops below 0-degree celsius. Because of such a drop in temperature, people witness snowfall. Snowfall attracts a lot of tourists from all over the world for popular activities like skiing and trekking towards Rohtang pass, Gulaba and Marhi. The best part about winter is that it is known to be an ‘off-season’ for Himachal tourism so accommodation is quite easily available at affordable prices.
Summers-
(March to June )
Summers are the busiest and attract the most tourists from all over the place. It is mainly because of its comfortable climate that is 10-degree Celsius to 25-degree celsius. All the adventure sports like rafting, paragliding, trekking and camping are very active because of the supportive climate that mother nature provides. If you plan to come here, you better start booking now or months before because of the demands it’s tough to get accommodation at the last moment.
Monsoons-
(July – September )
It is a season that is not high in demand but clever travellers choose this season because of the less crowd and more abundance in everything. Also, the popular festival known as Haryali does turn heads because of its popular practices amongst the locals. Seven different types of seeds are sown before the festival, close to the household deities. The showers are then welcomed with some traditional dancing and singing performances. This festival is also celebrated with great enthusiasm by local farmers. When it comes to adventure activities, river rafting is popular as the monsoons flourish the river at the level that is perfectly needed by the rafters. Do note that one should book these kinds of activities from an agency that conduct them with all kinds of safety procedures.

Solang Valley
Solang valley is one of the most scenic places, Solang Nala is a 30-minute ride from Manali. It is a place for adventure and sports lovers and while here, you can try your skiing depending on which season you visit. During the summers, people come here for paragliding and experience fallen snow as in the lower areas all the snow is already melted. You can also hop onto a cable car to experience the Himalayas from the top view.
Old Manali
If you want to visit a more antiquated part of town, then you should wander the streets of Old Manali and cover the authentic side of Manali’s slow living. Manali was a slow and sleepy pilgrimage town before the backpackers arrived in droves. The bridge over the Manaslu River separates Old Manali from the main town and is an iconic image in itself.
Rohtang Clubhouse has amazing huge mountains. Mountain biking is hugely practised here because of the scenic roads. It is placed 4000m above sea level, this high mountain pass on the Pir Panjal Range will make you fall in love with Clubhouses.
Dhungri Van Vihar
Van Vihar is famous for its Deodar trees and a man-made lake. While these beautiful trees provide the fresh air needed to rejuvenate and be at peace, the lake is a beauty to behold and get lost in. There are boats as well that let you travel through the Deodar forest and witness the charm of life. It is about 30 Rs. For 15 minutes of a boat ride.
Van Vihar holds a unique charm, it is the perfect destination for couples trying to find some peace and love in the middle of a crowd. With the sun sunset in the backdrop, the lake and the trees take up a whole new mystical look that is hard to forget in this lifetime.
Manikaran
If you are someone who loves adventure and thrill then reaching this temple will give you a rush. Reaching this amazing place will make you travel through narrow roads!
The structure is created in a Pagoda style, it is situated in a Beas river valley in the Kullu district. Entering this space will give you a sense of calmness and awaken your spiritual side.
Jogini Waterfall
Trek lovers should be smiling right now, as Jogini Waterfalls is the perfect place to trek towards. It gives you a scenic view with pure water coming from the falls. The waterfall is around a 3 Kms trek from Vashisht.
Vashisht Temple
Vashisht Temple should be on your bucket list as it is up to 4000 years old.
It is said that Beas Kund in Manali is the origin point of the mighty Beas River. Vashisht Temple is located a few kilometres away from Manali. The beautiful place spreads the energy of positivity and is a true backpacker’s paradise.
Clubhouse Manali

Kutla-
Trek of Kutla starts from the village of Tosh. Kulta itself is a remote village situated in Parvati Valley, located at 2800m ASL. While trekking you can also visit cosy cafes, look at the beautiful waterfalls and enjoy local foods.
Parvati Valley and river in Kasol-
Flowing through the Parvati valley, River Parvati is one of the major attractions in Kasol. It is a relaxing and rejuvenating experience for many. Beautiful landscapes of the valley and charming riverside makes this place better than the regular. It does not offer any major adventure activity and hence is a great place to visit in Kasol to just lay back, relax and enjoy the calm of nature.
Manali has always been distinguished from other hill stations because of its demand in the adventure sports section. Sports like paragliding, river rafting, zipline, skiing, yak riding and quad biking are really popular and their prices differ as per the seasons and agencies you are going up for. Skiing and river rafting can be enjoyed during winters and monsoons followingly. When it comes to paragliding, The cost depends on the flight time of that sport; 2-5 mins would cost from 700/- to 1200/- and 12-14mins would cost around 1500/- to 2000/-.
Last but not the least, food! Whether you are a vegan, non-vegetarian or a vegetarian, you don’t have to worry about food scarcity as you will get a variety of delicious food that will easily fit your criteria; starting from samosas to fish, you will get everything at a reasonable price.
Foods that one needs to try when in Manali-
Siddhu- Siddu a traditional “Kullvi dish” one of the most loved dishes in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. It is just a kind of bread made from wheat flour. It is found in loads of cafes and street stalls, especially in Manali.
Dham- Dham is a traditional festive feast of Himachal Pradesh prepared during religious festivals. Back then the Rajas ordered the cooks to make a meal that would justify an offering for the Gods. The cooks prepared a variety of dishes from across the valleys and since then the tradition of Dham has continued. To try and taste a variety of food on one plate, you should try ordering for Dham.
Momo- In the chilly weather of Manali, Tosh and Kasol; momos can legit act like a saviour for many. Momos are very popular and can be found in abundance in loads of cafes, restaurants and one might say; every corner of the street.
Tukpa- It is friendly for both, non-vegetarians and vegetarians. It is a noodle soup that originated from the Tibetans. Along with amazing taste, it gives you different types of nutrition because of its contents; onions, carrots, tomatoes, cabbage and noodles.
