The challenging trek to Indrahar Pass starts from Mcleodganj and covers Triund and Lahesh caves during the stretch. It forms the border between the Chamba and Kangra districts of Himachal Pradesh and serves some breathtaking views. If you want to boost your trekking skills with a moderately difficult adventure then the Indrahar Pass trek is the one. Though being a little difficult it offers splendid scenery.
The first stop of the trek is at Triund at 2,875metres. When you reach Triund and set up your tent, you’ll look out and realize the massiveness of the mountains. You’ll find yourself standing in the middle of the mountains and get overwhelmed by the fact that you’re a part of it.
From Triund, the trek leads you to Lahesh Cave via Laka passing through a grassland covered in boulders. In this part, you may come across thin streams with extremely cold water which freshens you up. Stop for a little tea break and some distressing at the prairie of Illaqa before proceeding with the journey further. After continuing the trek to Indrahar Pass, cross the tree line and notice scanty patches of grass on the mountain fronts. We will rise up through the rough terrain and touch the base at Lahesh Cave to finally initiate the last ascension and witness the opulent beauty of the Dhauladhar range. There are 3 summits at the top, Camel peak, Indrahaar pass, and Moon peak the trail is the same for all, and the shepherds or guide knows the exact trail.
A guide Is always recommended as one wrong turn, and you can get lost in seconds. Preferably a local, as the weather conditions change in seconds, so much that within seconds everything around you vanishes due to the opacity, and the local guide is well versed with the weather/rain trend.
The descent part is really tough as it could become steeper and steeper and the last 300 meters could be really challenging, being stairs. With the rain, the trail is known for frequent landslides. The combination of snow melted in the grass can be slippery and some essential paraphernalia would include some professional equipment (ropes, harness, etc), gloves, torch.
So it’s a tough trek overall and if you want to listen to your heartbeat, then try it once. It will certainly leave you with newfound energy and belief in yourself that any fear could be overcome
