Shimla is the capital and the biggest city of the Indian province of Himachal Pradesh. In 1864, Shimla was pronounced the late spring capital of British India. After autonomy, the city turned into the capital of Punjab and was later made the capital of Himachal Pradesh. It is the central business, social and instructive focus of the state. It was the capital city of British Burma (present-day Myanmar ). Little villas were recorded before 1815 when British powers assumed responsibility for the zone. The climatic conditions pulled in the British to set up the city in the thick woods of the Himalayas. As the mid-year capital, Shimla facilitated numerous significant political gatherings including the Simla Accord of 1914 and the Simla Conference of 1945. After autonomy, the territory of Himachal Pradesh appeared in 1948 because of the incorporation of 28 royal states. After the revamping of the territory of Himachal Pradesh, the current Mahasu region was named Shimla.

By Air: The nearest airport is at Jubbarhatti, 35 km from Shimla. Flights from Delhi take about 1 hour to reach Jubbarhatti. From Jubbarhatti, you can take a cab or a bus to reach Shimla.

By Road: Shimla is well connected by road network. Regular buses are available from Delhi and Chandigarh.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Kalka, about 100 km from Shimla. From Kalka, you can take a direct train to Shimla.

Kufri, Shimla:
Kufri is a small hill station in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh state in India. It is located 13 km from the state capital Shimla on the National Highway No.5 connecting Shimla with Kalka. It has an average elevation of 2,622 meters (8,598 ft). Kufri is famous for its Himalayan National Park, Panda wildlife sanctuary, Zoo, and Mahasu peak.
Kufri was discovered by the British in 1819 when the British were busy in the exploration of the Himalayas. The surveyor-general, William Moorcroft, was the first European to visit the place. He came to Kufri in 1819 and climbed the Mahasu peak.
The British developed Kufri as a tourist destination in the late 19th century. It became a popular picnic spot for the British who came to Shimla. Kufri has a winter sports resort that was started in the 1920s by the British.
Kufri is connected to Shimla by a narrow-gauge railway line. The Kalka-Shimla Railway line passes through Kufri. The Kalka-Shimla Railway was built by the British between 1898 and 1903.

The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), is a premier autonomous research institute located in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, India. As an institution of national importance, it is primarily engaged in the promotion of advanced research in humanities and social sciences. The Institute has been designated a Centre of Excellence by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has been identified as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. It is an autonomous body governed by the IIAS Society under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The Institute was founded in October 1965 by the Government of India. The aim of the Institute is to engage itself in reflection on current issues of national and international significance and to contribute to policy formulation and to the development of general public opinion.
The Institute is located in the Viceregal Lodge, previously known as the Rashtrapati Niwas, which was built by the British architect Henry Irwin in 1888. The building, which is set on a sprawling campus of about one hundred acres, was originally designed to serve as a residence of the then Viceroy of India.
The Institute has been declared an “Institution of National Importance” by an Act of Parliament in January 1977.

Tara Devi Temple, Shimla:
The Tara Devi Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Tara Devi, situated in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple is located at an altitude of 2,400 meters (7,900 ft) on the Tara Parvat in the Shimla District.
The history of the temple is associated with the legend of the self-immolation of the goddess Sati. According to legend, when Sati immolated herself in the Agni (fire sacrifice) of her father Daksha, Shiva carried her charred body in grief. The body was cut into 51 pieces by Vishnu’s Sudarshana Chakra, which fell on Earth at various places. These places came to be known as Shakti Peethas, and are worshipped by Hindus. The right arm of the goddess is said to have fallen here, making it one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
The current temple is said to have been built by the Gurkha general Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th century. The temple complex consists of the main shrine, dedicated to Tara Devi, and a smaller shrine dedicated to her consort, Brihaspati.
