About this tour

About Manali Trip with Sissu

If you are planning your next mountain vacation, a Manali Trip with Sissu should definitely be on your list. For years, Manali has been a favourite spot, but one of the biggest travel game-changers was the construction of the Atal Tunnel. This incredible 9.02 km tunnel has done something magical: it has made the journey to the beautiful, untouched region of Lahaul, and especially the serene village of Sissu, much faster and easier. Before the tunnel, you had to cross the Rohtang Pass, which was often closed for six months in winter because of heavy snow. Now, thanks to the Atal Tunnel, a Manali Trip with Sissu is possible all year round, cutting down the travel time from 4 to 5 hours to less than 2 hours! This makes Sissu, with its massive waterfall and riverside beauty, a must-visit spot on your Manali adventure.

Places to Visit on Your Manali Trip with Sissu

Your trip is a mix of Manali’s lively spots and the raw, natural beauty beyond the tunnel.

Manali’s Main Attractions

  • Mall Road, Manali: This is the heart of the town! It’s a busy street where you can shop for warm woollen clothes, buy souvenirs, and try out street food. It’s perfect for a lively evening stroll.
  • Hadimba Temple: This ancient temple is super unique because it’s built in a pagoda style (like a wooden tower) and is surrounded by thick deodar cedar trees. It’s a very peaceful place to visit.
  • Dhungri Van Vihar: A beautiful, quiet park with tall pine and deodar trees right next to the Beas River. It’s an ideal spot to relax, take a peaceful walk, and just breathe in the fresh mountain air.
  • Club House Manali: A place for fun and games! Here you can enjoy various indoor and outdoor activities like roller skating, boating, and billiards. It’s a great spot for families and groups.
  • Old Manali: Walk across a small bridge from the Mall Road, and you enter a different world! Old Manali has a very cool, bohemian (hippie) vibe with small, unique cafes, guesthouses, and shops selling handmade jewellery.
  • Jogini Waterfall: This requires a short, refreshing trek from Vashisth Temple. The walk through the village and pine forests is lovely, and the view of the water cascading down the rocks is truly rewarding.
  • Vashisth Temple: Famous for its natural hot water springs! It is believed the water has medicinal properties. You can take a dip in the public baths and feel relaxed and warm, which is amazing on a cold day.

Adventure and Alpine Wonders

  • Solang Valley: The go-to place for adventure! Depending on the season, you can enjoy paragliding, zorbing (rolling downhill in a giant ball), skiing, or just take a ride on the ropeway for stunning views of the valley.
  • Atal Tunnel (Rohtang): The engineering marvel we talked about! Driving through this 9.02 km long tunnel is an experience in itself. It connects Manali to Lahaul and is a highlight of the whole Manali Trip with Sissu.
  • Sissu (Lahaul Valley): Once you exit the North Portal of the tunnel, you are in Sissu! This village is pure magic. It sits right next to the Chandra River and is famous for its massive, visible Sissu Waterfall cascading from the high mountains. It’s a quieter, more snow-covered area, offering breathtaking views that feel like they’re from a postcard. It’s the perfect serene contrast to busy Manali.

Food to Try and Cool Cafes to Visit

Your Manali trip isn’t complete without trying the local food and chilling at the famous cafes.

Must-Try Local Food

  • Siddu: This is a local, fluffy steamed bread made of wheat flour. It’s often stuffed with a paste of spices or pulses and is usually eaten with pure ghee (clarified butter) or a curry. It’s warm, filling, and perfect for the cold weather!
  • Trout Fish: Since Manali is near the Beas River, the trout fish here is incredibly fresh. It’s usually grilled or pan-fried with mild spices to keep its natural, delicate flavour. A must-try for fish lovers!
  • Dham: A full, traditional Himachali meal. It’s a feast that includes rice, different curries (like Rajma Madra or lentil dishes), and a sweet dish. It’s served in traditional style and gives you a real taste of the local culture.
  • Thukpa and Momos: Thanks to the Tibetan influence, you’ll find amazing street food like warm, comforting Thukpa (noodle soup with veggies/meat) and delicious Momos (steamed dumplings). They are perfect for a chilly evening!

Good Cafes and Why You Should Visit

The best cafes are usually found in Old Manali, offering great food, music, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Cafe NameWhy You Should Visit
Cafe 1947It’s famous for its beautiful riverside seating. You can listen to the sound of the Manalsu River flowing while enjoying great Italian food like wood-fired pizzas and pasta. They often have live music, too!
The Lazy Dog LoungeHas a cool, laid-back vibe with lovely outdoor seating by the river. It’s known for serving a mix of Western and Indian dishes and is a great spot to just relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing.
Dylan’s Toasted & Roasted Coffee HouseThe best spot for serious coffee lovers! If you want a perfectly brewed cup of coffee and freshly baked cookies, this is your place. It has a cozy vibe and is a great place to read or chat.
Drifter’s Inn & CafeThis cafe is famous for its amazing breakfast options and American/Continental food. It’s a favourite among travellers for its cosy interiors, good music, and sometimes even board games.

Your Manali Trip with Sissu promises a perfect balance of Manali’s vibrancy and the serene, high-altitude beauty of Sissu. It’s an unforgettable journey that’s now easier than ever to complete!
